Our engineers and technicians know better than anybody else in Finland how to design railway lines and the appropriate electrical equipment and signalling systems. The work is based on customers’ needs: our Railway Consulting Unit produces reports and plans, enabling the customers to make profitable investments.

All work is based on life-cycle thinking while changes in operating conditions and transport volumes are also taken into account.

The staff at the Railway Consulting Unit comprises experts in track design, bridge engineering, geotechnology, signalling and railway electrification. A common database enables design work to go on simultaneously in different sectors and ensure compatibility at all times.

The engineering consulting firm Arcus Oy, a VR Track subsidiary, works in close cooperation with its parent company and specialises in the structural and geotechnical design of demanding projects.

Customers

The biggest customer of the Railway Consulting Unit is the Finnish Rail Administration. Other clients include municipalities and factories that own harbour and industrial sidings. The Unit also operates on the international market, both with its own projects and in cooperation with other European railway consulting bodies.
