The Plasser & Theurer 09-3X aligns and tamps the rails in exactly the right place, both horizontally and vertically.
When the rail is in the correct position, hydraulic tamping units push ballast under the sleepers and tamp them in place. The machine is used in the construction of new tracks and track replacement, but it is also needed when deviations in track geometry caused by train traffic have to be corrected.
